Qualified immunity, a policy created by the US Supreme Court, protects government employees who violate the rights of individuals by ensuring they cannot be personally responsible under the law unless their exact actions were previously found to be unconstitutional in the same jurisdiction. This policy makes it almost impossible to hold negligent and willfully malicious government agents accountable for trampling an individual’s rights.

I pledge to you that within 90 days of taking office as your United States Senator, I will author a bill to eliminate qualified immunity and work with like-minded members of both houses to get it passed and signed by the President. It is time for Congress - the policy making branch - to repeal this doctrine and repudiate the corruption and judicial activism it represents.
